The first project of the INNOTUB network, co-financed 65% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg V-A Spain-France-Andorra Program (POCTEFA 2014-2020), has served to develop new tools for biosecurity, diagnosis and vaccines, as well as better communication strategies with the livestock sector for the control of animal tuberculosis, with a special focus on the Pyrenees region. This disease causes significant economic losses to livestock and poses a professional risk to farmers, veterinarians, slaughterhouse workers or hunters. TB usually affects cows and goats and is caused by Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae. In addition, some wild animals in the trans-Pyrenees region, such as wild boar, can become infected and transmit the infection to livestock.
The main results obtained were presented at the closing event of the first INNOTUB project, which can be found in full in the following video:
The INNOTUB network will continue to work in the coming years with the incorporation of new private sector entities to join forces and continue with the innovations that have begun in this first project.
