INNOTUB II meets in Toulouse and defines the lines of action for 2025

24 February 2025

The partners of the European project INNOTUB II held an in-person meeting in Toulouse with the objective of reviewing the progress achieved to date and planning the next actions to improve the control of animal tuberculosis in the cross-border region. During two days of intensive work, representatives from the participating entities addressed key aspects of the project's technical, administrative, and strategic coordination.

On the first day, several technical sessions focusing on the main areas of action of INNOTUB II were organized. The day began with Action 3 on Prevention, Surveillance, and Risk Analysis, coordinated by UAB Barcelona and ENVT, where new strategies were discussed to reduce the spread of tuberculosis on livestock farms. Subsequently, in Action 4 on Transmission and Phylodynamics, led by ANSES, the spread of tuberculosis strains among different species and territories was analyzed in order to improve biosecurity measures. The day continued with Action 5, focused on Control, Diagnosis, and the Development of New Vaccines, during which NEIKER presented advances in diagnostics and innovative strategies for eradicating the disease.

The final session of the day was dedicated to Communication Obligations, led by IRTA-CReSA, where strategies to ensure the effective dissemination of the project's progress were reviewed. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of communicating the results to the livestock sector, health authorities, and the general public. To close the day, the partners moved to the center of Toulouse, where they enjoyed a dinner at the emblematic Grand Café Le Florida, creating an ideal environment to strengthen collaboration and exchange experiences.

The second day began with a session on Administrative and Financial Management, led by NEIKER - Grupo DEX, which highlighted the need to ensure transparency and efficiency in the management of the European funds allocated to the project. Following this, parallel workshops were held during which future strategies were discussed regarding the prevention and surveillance of tuberculosis, the transmission and phylodynamics of the disease, and the development of diagnostic and control tools.

The meeting concluded with an evaluation of the work accomplished and the definition of the next objectives for INNOTUB II. The need to continue strengthening cooperation among the various stakeholders involved in tuberculosis control and to improve communication between the involved sectors in order to achieve more effective surveillance was emphasized. With a highly committed team and numerous challenges ahead, the partners reaffirmed their commitment to animal health and the eradication of tuberculosis.
